When cell phone service is unreliable, you can borrow a Satellite Communicator to cover the gaps. The Garmin InReach SE+ or Explorer+ have two-way texting abilities as well as SOS activation. Here is a guide for using the InReach SE+ or Explorer+.

Steps for Loaner InReach check-out:

• Complete a Field Safety Plan and send to fieldsafety@ucsc.edu

• Consult the status of units below to ensure one is available for your trip dates

• Complete the Satellite Communication Device Use Agreement form including the following:

  • 2 Emergency Contacts (UCSC contact, family, etc)

  • 3 Preset Messages with text of messages and cellphone/email recipients for each

• Schedule an in-person briefing on its basic functions and uses

The Field Safety Program maintains a large variety of basic First Aid kit supplies in order to create custom kits for your particular field setting.

The available items and amounts are shown in the Order Form below.

To order items from the list:

• Open the Order Form in a new tab by clicking the icon "outlined box with upward diagonal arrow"

• Under "File", click on "Make Copy". This will save it to your Google Drive.

• You can then modify the copy with the quanitities you are requesting.

• Re-title the copy with your name and send to fieldsafety@ucsc.edu
